France: Police Shoot 17year Old Boy for Breaking Traffic Rules, 150 Protesters Arrested Over Minor's Death


Paris: A 17-year-old boy, Nahel, was shot dead by police after he refused to stop at a traffic signal in the sub-urban area of Nanterre in the French capital on Tuesday, police said.

Violence has continued in France since this incident. Hundreds of people have been protesting on the streets of Paris since late Wednesday.

According to the BBC, protesters torched several buildings and cars and also threw fireworks at the police. The police have detained the officer who opened fire. France's interior ministry has deployed 2,000 policemen on the streets. So far, 150 protesters have been arrested.

1. The incident took place on Tuesday. Two police officers stopped a yellow car on a street in Nantere. During the argument, the police officer took out a pistol and shot the driver Nahel in the head. The driver drove the car fast, which crashed some distance away. He died on the spot.

2. Media reports said that the car driver was 17 years old and did not have a driving license. According to some other reports, the police chased this car and stopped it. This is also seen in the video. After being stopped, he tried to escape, when the officer shot him.

3. AFP verified a video going viral, saying that the police officer stopped the car and shot the driver from the window. Even after being shot, he tried to escape and after going about 200 meters away, the car crashed into a wall. A 38-year-old police officer was also detained after being suspended.


President Macron calls emergency meeting, 1-minute silence in Parliament

The President of France has called an emergency meeting. Macron said that the whole country is shocked by this incident. By no logic can the murder of a young man be justified in this way.

French lawmakers observed a minute's silence in the National Assembly on Wednesday. Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne said the shooting was a clear violation of the rules. The victim's family has lodged a complaint against the officials involved in the incident for murder, aiding and abetting the murder.
